Advice I’ve seen from a few of the popular “tiktok” barbers just say “look up barbers on insta in your location” but all the results are for like fades and braids and stuff.
I also see people saying to go to a salon, I have before but they didn’t really do a great job. I’ve looked at a few other stylists at salons and their socials and such but they have no photos of mens haircuts and typically the few they do have are more traditional ones on 30-40yo dudes. So I dont feel confident spending the larger costs to go a salon when I cant be sure that they can even “do me right.”
IVE GOTTA BE OVERCOMPLICATING THIS. I definitely am haha, I’m 18 and I’ve never gotten a haircut I’ve liked before so I’ve been avoiding them as much as possible, esspecially since my hair got botched last time I got it cut a little over a year ago (at that salon) I havent gotten a haircut from someone else since. I’ve been trying cutting my own bangs whenever it starts to get too long and I think you can imagine how hideous that looks on me… I tried debulking the sides myself a couple weeks ago so it’d look less round and girly but it didnt help because I didnt cut enough because Im too scared to take too much off and make it worse than it already is. The cut I want isnt even that complicated I think Im just being picky I guess but it’s just so hard to trust someone else with something so important to your looks but after trying to cut myself and failing I feel even worse
Here’s the style I’m looking for if anyone’s curious.
Short, above the eyes and over the ears with a slight mullet in the back and no skin tight razors on the side (I’m looking at you, modern mullet.) My hair is straighter than the dudes in the photo but a straighter version of the same haircut would still look good imo. I do have a blowdryer and texture powder which Ive used before back when it was shorter and it worked pretty well so I could probably get my hair to have a bit more shmoovment but I like not having to style cuz its easier and because running your hands through a head of silky fine hair like the best part of having it lmao
Also little side tangent but like the biggest piece of advice I hear is to find a reference photo on Pinterest to show to your barber but like 95% of the photos are all either thick black haired asian dudes or white guys with wavy or curly hair. And when I search for specifically straight hair I get super textured wavy hair photos, like THATS NOT STRAIGHT HAIR CHEIF (at least it gets rid of the curly photos.) Ignorance is bliss I guess, they’ll never know the struggles ?
Deadass be honest yall, am I actually overthinking this. Can I just go to greatclips and be happy. Its been so long that like I dont even know anymore bro. I only started caring about my hair like 3 years ago so I have no point of reference aside from my few bad experiences these past 3 years.
Im too lazy to proofread this so sorry if its hard to follow. If any of yall got some good barber/stylist recommendations or just advice on not being a worrywart that’d be much obliged.
Ohh, last note. I’m also up in the DFW area a lot so recs over there also great!
