I received an email this evening:
The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is transitioning toll transaction processing, billing, and customer service operations to HCTRA which has performed toll services as its core business for 40 years. We expect them to deliver reliable, high-quality service for customers who travel on TxDOT’s toll roads in the Austin and Houston regions.
To prepare for the transition to HCTRA, the system will not be available beginning close of business Nov. 15. The system will be available again starting Nov. 18 to pay your outstanding bills. After this blackout period, it is important to pay any outstanding TxTag bills as soon as possible to avoid additional fees, collection notices or bill confusion after the transition.
Below are important changes to expect following the switch to HCTRA’s system:
Invoicing: Non-tag customers will receive one bill for travel on TxDOT and HCTRA toll roads in the Austin and Houston regions that will include only the fees under HCTRA invoicing going forward. For more information on fees, see TxTag.org or HCTRA.org.
Prior transactions: TxTag will continue to invoice and collect for transactions that occurred on or before Nov. 8. After the transition, HCTRA will collect new tolls and provide a statement or EZ Invoice for travel on TxDOT and HCTRA toll roads in the Austin and Houston metro areas.
Customer support: TxTag will be able to assist customers only with billing issues associated with charges incurred prior to the transition. Following the switch, HCTRA will provide customer support related to new tolls or invoices.
Tolling and billing policies: All customers on TxDOT-owned toll roads in the Austin and Houston regions will follow HCTRA’s tolling policies after the transition similarly to how TxDOT-owned toll roads in the Dallas\Fort Worth region follow North Texas Tollway Authority (NTTA) to provide greater regional consistency in toll billing and fees. Information about HCTRA’s policies can be found at hctra.org.
Overlapping accounts or invoices: Some customers may have overlapping accounts with TxTag and HCTRA during the transition and could receive multiple invoices depending on when toll transactions occurred. These will not be duplicate transactions or charges, and each invoice should be resolved with the agency that sent it.
