As Katie Holmes and Suri Cruise traipse around NYC in the baggiest coats they can find, Selena Gomez is bringing the oversized outerwear trend to Los Angeles.
On November 16, the Emilia Pérez star bundled up for Netflix and Elle’s Latinas in Hollywood event, walking the purple carpet in her black leather trench coat. For the occasion, the 32-year-old actor wore the oversized coat buttoned and belted closed over what appears to be a black dress, finishing off the look with pointed leather boots. Gomez kept the accessories minimal to non-existent, letting her dramatic jacket do all the heavy lifting.
Giving her flippy bob the middle-part treatment, Gomez softened the otherwise edgy red carpet ‘fit with a rosy makeup look and topped everything off with a “deep wine mani.”

Before you ask, winter nights in Los Angeles definitely get cold enough to warrant thick layers, and Selena Gomez hit all the right notes with her cosy red carpet look. Between her leather boots and burgundy manicure, Selena Gomez is fully embracing fall-winter trends—and her coat featured multiple key elements of his year’s favoured styles.
The leather trench combines all the best facets of a leather bomber jacket and wool topcoat, while the (possibly faux) fur collar keeps the look from skewing too Matrix-coded (though that look never goes out of style). And though the fit of the coat is slightly oversized—which is definitely part of the appeal—the belt can help add a touch of shape to an ensemble.
The best part? Unlike most celebrity red carpet looks, this coat would look just as good with a pair of jeans as it would dressed up for a formal event. You’re a real one, Selena Gomez.
