As the dust settles from last night’s 2025 Golden Globe Awards at Los Angeles’ Beverly Hilton Hotel, TheIndustry.fashion rounds up the red carpet’s top fashion trends, including recycled dresses, sheer, and heavily sequinned looks.
All that glitters was at the Golden Globes’ 82nd edition last night. In fact, both glitter and gold were favoured across celebrities’ red carpet looks at the renowned film and television awards. Stars including Zendaya, Anya Taylor-Joy and Demi Moore graced the first awards ceremony of the year, as well as Timothée Chalamet who ditched the traditional tie for a scarf, likely in a nod to his recent performance as Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown.
Other trends that sparkled were sheer gowns, recycled looks, and men accessorising with brooches.
The ceremony is notoriously difficult to style, as it falls at the end of the autumn/winter season, when many designers’ top pieces have largely already been worn. However, this can lead to guests making more instinctive decisions when it comes to their chosen looks.
Gold
Unsurprisingly, metallic, gold-adjacent gowns were a winner on the pre-ceremony carpet. Zendaya wore a burnt orange Louis Vuitton strapless ballgown, evocative of a bygone Hollywood era, complete with perfectly coiffed curls that were just this side of Marilyn Monroe’s iconic steam grate moment. The 28-year-old Challengers actor was nominated for Best Actress for her performance as tennis player Tashi Duncan in Luca Guadagnino’s 2024 drama Challengers.
The Best Actress award was taken home by Demi Moore for her role as ageing television star Elisabeth Sparkle in The Substance. Moore similarly opted for a gold custom strapless dress by Giorgio Armani Privé. The champagne-hued design featured a sculpted, curve-detail bodice with crystal embellishments.
Other stars going for gold were Mindy Kaling and Kristen Bell in Ashi Studio, Nikki Glasser in Prabal Gurung, and Mikey Maddison in Bottega Veneta.
Recycled gowns
As fashion’s environmental impact becomes ever more pronounced, archival and recycled looks are increasingly favoured by stars on the red carpet.
Ariana Grande, who was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Glinda opposite Cynthia Erivo’s Elphaba in Wicked, opted for an archival pale yellow Givenchy gown from Hubert de Givenchy’s SS66 collection. The dress was purchased from Los Angeles high-end vintage store LILY et Cie, owned by Rita Watnick, who has dressed the likes of Margot Robbie, Kim Kardashian and Jennifer Aniston using pieces from her archives.

Grande’s empire waist column gown featured a hand-beaded bodice and asymmetrical layered hem. She paired the dress with white, opera-length gloves. “It’s yellow because [of] ‘Follow the yellow brick road’,” Grande told Variety. “And it’s one of Glinda’s favourite colours.”
Anya Taylor-Joy turned to the Dior archives for a blush-pink silk slip dress. The 28-year-old Mad Max actor paired her backless, cowl-neck gown with a matching satin shawl, Tiffany & Co. statement necklace and a pair of Jimmy Choo ‘Minny’ Sandals.
Also in archival or recycled looks were Cate Blanchett in Louis Vuitton, Viola Davis in Gucci and Elle Fanning in Balmain.

Sequins
Sequins on the red carpet? Groundbreaking.
While sequins making an appearance at an awards ceremony is not exactly news, last night’s Golden Globes welcomed an unprecedented number of tiny, sparkly embellishments onto the red carpet.
Shocking no one, Nicole Kidman was wearing Balenciaga. Kidman, who was nominated for Best Actress for her role in Halina Reijn’s Babygirl, has historically favoured the Spanish house’s designs for her red carpet looks, this time opting for a custom silver backless piece from the house’s 52nd couture collection. The asymmetric single-strap gown was draped at the waist and pooled slightly at Kidman’s feet.
Eiza González seemed to be channelling an actual Golden Globe with her look. The Mexican actor wore a vintage-inspired, sequinned gold Gucci gown, which featured a structured square neckline and cut-out back.
Also hopping on the sequin bandwagon were Zoe Saldana in Saint Laurent, Jeff Goldblum in Amiri, and Salma Hayek in Gucci.
Sheer
Angelina Jolie, also nominated for Best Actress for her role as opera heavyweight Maria Callas in Pablo Larraín’s Maria, wore a highly embellished Alexander McQueen gown, which featured sheer sections and streaks of black and silver sequins.
American actress and comedian Awkwafina wore a long-sleeved black Jenny Packham gown with sheer panelling and shoulder pads.
Also embracing the sheer were Georgina Chapman in Marchesa and Dakota Fanning in Dolce & Gabbana.

Men in brooches
A key trend from the 2024 Oscars, male guests at last night’s Golden Globes upped their brooch game.
Adrien Brody, who won Best Actor for his role in The Brutalist, wore a black, three-piece Thom Browne suit complete with an oversized, bejewelled branch-esque brooch, naturally.
Sartorial king of the carpet, American actor and playwright Colman Domingo wore Valentino with a subtle rhinestone feather brooch and a much less subtle fringed polka dot necktie.
Also broaching the brooch were Dwayne Johnson in Dolce & Gabbana, Sebastian Stan in Prada and Cooper Koch in Armani.
