Jeremy Strong’s Golden Globes Bucket Hat Wasn’t Just About Fashion, It Was About Acting

The Beverly Hilton Hotel was chock-full of A-listers Sunday evening for the 2025 Golden Globes, but one star was particularly easy to spot in the crowd: Jeremy Strong.

The Succession alum, who was nominated at the ceremony for his performance in Donald Trump biopic The Apprentice, took monochromatic power dressing to a new level in a custom plush velvet Loro Piana look in a striking shade of jade, that featured a single-button notch-lapel jacket, slim tailored trousers, a baby cashmere turtleneck knit, and a coordinating bucket hat. Strong, who was styled by Warren Alfie Baker and chose the striking shade from a selection of swatches sent by Loro Piana, really committed to his headwear, never removing it during the ceremony. It wasn’t just because he thought the bucket hat was cool, reps for Strong told Vanity Fair: There’s a bit of a hair situation right now.

An unnamed source told Page Six that Strong opted for the headwear because his hair is currently “wild-looking,” which Strong’s team confirmed and explained to VF. Strong is currently filming the Bruce Springsteen biopic Deliver Me From Nowhere, in which Jeremy Allen White plays The Boss and Strong portrays Jon Landau, the musician’s longtime manager.

“His hair is not his own right now so he had Loro Piana create this custom velvet bucket hat for the Globes,” Strong’s rep told VF.

Strong and Landau do not share a hair color or a hairline, and Strong approached the role with the all-in commitment he’s known for.

“He doesn’t really believe in surface transformation so he altered his own appearance extremely for the character, just like he did for the weight loss when playing Roy Cohn,” the rep continued, pointing to his Apprentice role. “His goal as an actor has always been to be a shapeshifter and to disappear into roles whether it’s Kendall Roy or Roy Cohn or Jon Landau.”

Opting for the eye-catching outfit on Sunday, which he paired with retro aviator sunglasses, also featuring thick aqua frames, was also a manifestation of Strong’s 100 percent commitment: “Why not also be versatile in fashion?” Strong’s rep said.

Even Anne Hathway tipped her hat (so to speak) to Strong’s bold look at the show, posting a meme joking that he had borrowed her Princess Diaries bucket hat for the event.

The real-life Landau told the Hollywood Reporter in an October interview that when he heard that Strong would be playing him on screen, “I died and went to heaven.”

“I’m just dying to see what he does and what I learn from it,” he said.

White, who picked up another Globe on Sunday for his lead performance on The Bear, didn’t attend the ceremony, also earned Landau’s endorsement.

“Oh my god, he’s just perfect,” Landau said of White. “The casting is great.”
