We haven’t seen the Princess of Wales in a gown for over a year, but that might soon change.

Reports suggest Kate is set to make her dazzling red carpet return at this month’s BAFTA Film Awards, her first major appearance in 14 months and her first time on the BAFTA red carpet since 2023.
According to insiders, the organisation is “pulling out all the stops” to ensure her attendance, promising a “show-stopping” moment alongside Prince William, who has served as BAFTA president since 2010.

Kate has attended the BAFTAs six times so far, delivering some of her most unforgettable fashion moments to date. As we await confirmation of her attendance, let’s take a look back at every incredible gown she’s worn to the event so far:
2011
For her debut BAFTA appearance as the newlywed Duchess of Cambridge, Kate attended a special BAFTA event in Los Angeles during her first official royal tour of North America in 2011.

She wore a stunning lilac gown by Alexander McQueen, featuring soft pleated chiffon and a sparkling silver belt. Paired with elegant accessories and her signature glossy waves, the look was a perfect blend of Hollywood glamour and royal sophistication, making it one of her most iconic early red carpet moments.
2017
After a six-year absence, Kate returned to the BAFTAs in 2017, wearing an off-the-shoulder floral gown by Alexander McQueen.

The black dress with bold floral motifs was a romantic choice. She completed the look with a gigantic pair of pear drop earrings and a chic updo.
Fashion fact: Kate’s only ever worn two designers to the BAFTAs, both British: Alexander McQueen (5 times) and Jenny Packham (once).
2018
In 2018, Kate attended the BAFTAs while pregnant with Prince Louis.

She opted for a dark green Jenny Packham gown featuring a black velvet sash at the waist. The dress subtly adhered to the event’s unofficial black dress code supporting the Time’s Up movement.
2019
In 2019, Kate opted for an ethereal white one-shoulder gown by Alexander McQueen.

The dramatic design featured a flowing pleated skirt and floral appliqué detail on the shoulder, creating a timelessly elegant silhouette.
She completed the look with diamond drop earrings from Princess Diana’s collection and a white clutch, perfectly balancing modern glamour with a nod to royal tradition.

2020
Kate chose Alexander McQueen for the 2020 BAFTAs again, wearing an embellished gold and cream dress.

In line with BAFTA’s ‘sustainable fashion guide’, Kate chose to forgo new for the occasion and had the gown from the 2012 visit to Malaysia altered—she had the old dress updated with new fitted, lined sleeves.
2023
The Princess of Wales turned heads at the 2023 BAFTAs in a revamped Alexander McQueen gown.

The white one-shoulder design, first worn to the 2019 BAFTAs, was updated with a flowing chiffon sleeve detail and accessorised with dramatic black opera gloves and gold earrings from Zara—a playful high-street touch that fans adored.
What Will Kate Wear To This Years BAFTAs?
As the 16th of February draws closer, I’m starting to wonder what Kate might wear on this year’s BAFTA red carpet. I expect another re-wear, an older gown—perhaps updated with a new twist?
I’d like to see a return of her Diane Von Furstenburg ‘Zarita’ gown, worn with a pair of impressive statement earrings. What’s your choice?
