2013 The Block winners Alisa and Lysandra, have done it again. Tasked with revitalising a a Tudor-style beachside home in Glenelg, SA, they have seamlessly merged heritage character with contemporary coastal aesthetics, creating a stylish yet inviting retreat.

The sisters wanted to enhance the home’s unique charm while integrating modern conveniences and durable materials suited for the high turnover of guests, with durability and ease of maintenance just as crucial as aesthetics.

“We wanted this Airbnb to feel like a luxurious home away from home; a space that exudes both style and comfort while withstanding the demands of frequent guests,” said Lysandra.
Transforming a home into a high-end Airbnb in just six weeks posed its challenges, but careful planning made all the difference. Selecting readily available, high-quality materials kept the project on track, without comprising on design. “Window coverings allowed us to elevate both the style and functionality of this home,” Alisa said. “They provide insulation, light control, and privacy while complementing our cohesive design vision.”

The home features an open-plan living and dining area, designed to maximise space and natural light. A deep navy feature wall in the living room end contrasts with soft neutral furnishings, while woven textures and timber accents add depth and character. A statement pendant light casts a warm glow, enhancing the inviting ambiance.
Sheer curtains frame the windows, filtering light and maintaining privacy without compromising the room’s airy feel. Plush seating with carefully curated cushions ensure this space is as comfortable as it is stylish.

The bedrooms reflect the classic elegance of the living spaces. Natural textures such as sandstone, marble, rattan, and seagrass matting create depth and visual interest, while a palette of soft neutrals and warm timber tones enhance the tranquil atmosphere. Plush bedding and simple decor cultivate an effortless sense of luxury.

Sheer and blockout curtains provide flexibility, allowing guests to control light levels to suit their preference. In the kid’s bunk room (below), the blinds offer an uncluttered and practical solution, balancing privacy with style.

All window furnishings are from Luxaflex.
