Why Sofia Richie Grainge Dancing for a Nanosecond Is the Biggest Thing on TikTok

Either you get it or you don’t. Sofia Richie Grainge, a bona fide Gen Z It Girl associated with the old money aesthetic after her lavish wedding (Did we all cheer and clap for her when she married an age-appropriate peer after dating Scott Disick as a teen? We did) is now going viral for…being…chill? Yeah, no, totally.

Here’s what’s going on: The Notorious S.R.G. linked up with influencer Jake Shane some time ago for his podcast, and for friendship, probably. On Thanksgiving they made a TikTok together that is literally 14 seconds of them dancing (well, bopping around) to the song “Messy” by Lola Young at an outdoor mansion and posted it to Shane’s account.

In the video Sophia Richie Grainge wears a camel-color sweater and skirt, metallic earrings, and sunglasses. She looks happy, relaxed, confident, glowing, the whole vibe. And the internet is obsessed with it.

“This feels ICONIC,” reads one of the top comments on TikTok. Many praise her smooth, shiny hair and smooth, shiny personality. Others note that they’ve watched the video every day since it’s been up. As of this writing, it has 1.5 million likes. Check it out for yourself…

I do find the app’s ability to build an entire movement around the smallest of moments impressive!

So…what»s…going on? Why is this suddenly THE video? From the comments, it seems a good amount of the virality came from Richie Grainge’s dancing, which reminded (or taught) people that she is, in fact, crooner Lionel Richie’s daughter and thus predisposed to just, like, having swag. Her mom is dancer Diane Alexander, who appeared in Richie’s video for the hit song “Dancing on the Ceiling.” Her godfather was Michael Jackson!

The video then went viral again as people wanted to know what all the fuss was about, and a number of the top comments are now along the lines of, “This is the dance?”
