Travel Tuesday Is The Best Day To Snap Up Discounted Flights

Black Friday may have been the time to restock on viral beauty buys or invest in (half-price) homeware, but Travel Tuesday is the event for holidaymakers. Whether you’re desperate to escape Winter with a long-haul trip to Las Vegas or spend some quality time with your other half at one of the best hotels in Devon as part of a UK staycation, the promise of a hefty drop in prices can only make that idea more appealing, right?

Yep, Travel Tuesday (AKA today) is one of the travel industry’s best-kept secrets. While you might expect the best deals to drop on Black Friday and Cyber Monday, the Tuesday after is actually the best time to purchase flights, with even better deals typically dropping post-Cyber Week and pre-Christmas.

For those wondering, a host of our favourite airlines, hotels and travel retailers — including Expedia, EasyJet and British Airways — often get involved. So, we guess it’s time to book that interrailing trip around Europe, an adventure to Australia, or a P&O cruise… or all three?

What is Travel Tuesday?

If you’re yet to experience the joys of Travel Tuesday, let’s get you prepared. Essentially, it’s the Tuesday after the Black Friday weekend when a host of airlines, hotels and other businesses in the tourism industry offer special discounts. This year, Travel Tuesday falls on December 3rd 2024.

“Travel Deal Tuesday has consistently become one of the best days of the year to book travel,” says Hayley Berg, Lead Economist at Hopper. “Given the massive holiday shopping and consumer savings on Black Friday and Cyber Monday, travel providers are motivated to drop prices during the holiday sales week to take advantage of the consumer spending mindset, and incentivise travellers at a time when travel demand is low.”

Which airlines are taking part in Travel Tuesday?

While we don’t know exactly which airlines will be offering what deals this Travel Tuesday, the 2023 deals suggest we’ll again have plenty of choice. Last year, our Commerce team spotted savings of up to 60% on flights to Asia, California, Lisbon, London, Los Angeles, New York and Puerto Rico. Hawaiian Airlines, Aer Lingus, Southwest, and JetBlue Vacations were also among the companies that participated.

FYI, in a recent study, Hopper estimated that three times more were planned on Travel Tuesday than on Black Friday. A sign we should perhaps practise the art of patience…
