H-E-B to open new southeast Austin store, eyeing 2027 opening date

AUSTIN (KXAN) — H-E-B lovers, rejoice! A new store is coming to southeast Austin, the Texas grocer announced Wednesday.

H-E-B will open a new location at McKinney Falls Parkway and William Cannon Drive, the company announced. Officials noted this project is being “aligned with community investments,” adding H-E-B will gift $1 million to Habitat for Humanity to support the development of two affordable housing projects in east Austin.

Construction on the McKinney Falls store is expected to begin in 2025, with an opening date expected in late 2027.

“At H-E-B, we’re always looking for ways to invest in our stores and the community. This level of investment takes years of planning, and we are incredibly excited to continue providing the greater Austin area with stores that are new, expanded and remodeled. As we look for ways to serve even more Texans, we also remain committed to support those in need and uplift our communities where we operate and beyond.”

Cathy Harm, H-E-B Senior Vice President, Central Texas Region

The announcement comes as H-E-B officials say the company has 12 major projects in development within the greater Austin area. Those include six new stores alongside six remodeling and expansion projects. As part of those efforts, the renovated and additional stores will bring more than 4,000 jobs to the region.

Elsewhere in the region, H-E-B opened its third Pflugerville store, and began construction on a Manor store in October. Renovation plans wrapped at the Tech Ridge H-E-B at Parmer Lane and Interstate 35, and the Ed Bluestein Boulevard location is expected to undergo a revamp in 2026.

Other store renovations planned include in Kyle and Bastrop, with new store openings on South Congress Avenue in Austin and in Georgetown and San Marcos.
