Howdy, I’m visiting from out east. I recently patronized your fine jazz establishments and want to give a shout out!
I’m very happy to see the jazz community thrive in Texas and aim to celebrate these venues.
I travel the world visiting these spots; culturally it’s so important to have creative and explorative music spaces. This is our music. (Literally, jazz came from the US and propagates in the rest of the world.)
As far as I can tell each Austin club holds a separate and meaningful place in the scene! I have had the best time with proprietors, musicians, and audiences, met friends and made lasting memories.
I encourage everyone to patronize these venues so they can sustainably host regular touring acts. Musicians take care of musicians and I support these owners. Jazz in Austin is poppin!
— Monks Jazz — Killer listening room on the east side! Consummate creative vibes. https://monksjazz.com/
— Parker Jazz and Texas Jazz Society — Holding it down downtown! Classic cocktails, great stage, a non-profit arm that’s a staple society in seeding jazz education here. https://www.parkerjazzclub.com/ https://www.texasjazzsociety.org/
— Elephant Room — The og hang! (Tony Campise was here) https://elephantroom.com/
— The Continental Club Gallery — Eclectic loft party jams! https://continentalclub.com/thegallery
— (Shout out UT Butler School of Music, and TX State) —
Anyone that doesn’t know where to start with this music can dm me, and r/jazz gives good rec. I’m sure you have more organizations I need to know, as well!
Keep it swingin’ and I’ll see you soon, Austin! I look forward to listening more and thanks for the hang
