I’ve written about enough fashion collections in my time to know how to spot a good one when I see it now, and reader, the H&M Studio Holiday Capsule 2024 drop is – what is it everyone’s saying these days? – chefs kiss.
It’s no surprise when the general H&M new-in section is full to the brim with party dresses, party accessories and other festively-appropriate garments, but the Studio side of the brand is something I always look forward to shopping. It offers the chance to shop more elevated, limited edition and expensive pieces (not too dissimilar from that of their famous designer collaborations – IYKYK).
If you’re a bit of a minimalist who prefers a less-is-more approach to Christmas dressing, then this line-up is for you. H&M Studio is renowned for its tailored-to-perfection separates, co-ords and occasionwear; which is exactly what you’ll find plenty of on Thursday 21st November, you’ll be pleased to know.
“This season the design team was channelling quiet confidence, creating after-dark pieces that set pulses racing while making you feel at ease,” says Kathrin Deutsch, collection designer at H&M Studio. Rather than everything being covered in sequins – which is still fabulous, by the way – you’ll see a preference for embellishments and lustrous fabrics like taffeta, silk and recycled materials instead.
“We distilled sharp silhouettes with edgy details in ways that feel effortless to wear this party season,” says Ann-Sofie Johansson, creative advisor and head of design womenswear at H&M, and she’s not wrong.
The collection explores tinsel trimmings and off-beat details (like hammered buttons and metallic accents) to deliver a refined spin on Christmas eventwear, instead of what you might usually expect to see.
Key pieces emphasise sleek shapes and smooth textures – think: a sweeping black chrome-free leather coat with burnished fastenings, gold-tipped loafers, rhinestone studded jewellery and so on.
You can find the 33 piece collection online at hm.com and in stores from the 21st November. Eight pieces will also be available to rent in exclusive colourways. For now, browse and bookmark our top 21 favourite styles from the launch below.
