For the past week, I have been helping my boyfriend move into his new apartment in Austin. I am not an Austin resident myself, but have made several trips here for my involvement in SXSW.
We’ve been all over Austin for Facebook Marketplace pickups, garage sale hunting, and general craziness as he makes the move. Interacting with locals in this way has been very heart warming. Walking around downtown the day of election with perfect weather, seeing Harris Walz shirts, signs, etc made me feel so happy.
My message to the people of Austin: You are a light in this state, and don’t let anything dull the shine. Continue to inspire and lead with love.
I sense that I missed my train to live in this wonderful city. I graduated college in one of the most liberal cities in North Carolina in 2022, then moved to Dallas for work, now in the process of relocating to New York City. While I’ll just be a visitor every few weeks, I love this city and just continue to be amazed by the love and acceptance I feel here.
