Today Is A Weird, Weird Day….So Are My Funny Farm Pets

Y’all. Elisha and Barb (our 250lb kune kune pig pets) are stress-eating (more than usual). The boys (alpacas) are mounting each other (alpacas are historically horny) more than usual. I’m writing this at 7 pm, Tuesday night, and have no idea what the results will be but sounds like a lot of the country will be feeling really defeated today which of course isn’t a feeling anyone wants to have. I won’t even try to give any insight into how I manage my stress on days like this – it will surely sound like a privileged person who has read too much self-improvement in the wellness genre (not wrong). I mean, fine, it involves walking up hills, with my weighted vest and a gripping podcast (Betrayal? The Kill List?), then planning my next soup recipe and making a list (somehow planning to cook is just as calming as cooking), hugging my kids and animals, and reading a romance novel that I can’t put down (likely with a high steam factor). I mean, I also have to work all day and write 5 blog posts with real deadlines. But outside of that, I’m hoping I have time for the above. After work maybe I’ll rearrange the living room or clean off the disgusting scum on every single spice or oil bottle in our kitchen (truly embarrassing). I’ve already finished purging my closet (head to Consign Couture in Multnomah village for a ton of incredible clothes I just dropped off).

One of our family mantras we employ all the time is “Get out of your head and into your body”. It’s the only thing that really works for coping in a healthy way (for our kids and us). On days like this I don’t meditate or bathe (or read the news) I strap on a podcast or audiobook and clean out the shed in hopes of sweating and cleaning so hard I won’t have time to think. Or go for a long ass walk.

It’s a really, really hard day for our country (again, I have no idea who will win as I’m writing this). So many people will be disappointed and worried about their future. And that just sucks. I’m sorry we are in this position, truly. See you tomorrow and take care of yourself. xx
