“Back then, I’d throw on my favourite vintage leopard coat and out I went,” says Kylie, seen here at a party with Jean Paul Gaultier in 1991.

Short on time? Try a slip dress and a scarf

“My go-to [party outfit] is a slip dress or a sleeveless bias-cut dress, strappy heels or mules, and an oversized, slouchy off-the-shoulder sweater or cardigan. If it’s colder, the same base with knee-high boots and a blazer or coat. This is my happy dressing, as I don’t feel restricted or [like I’m] following a trend, I just feel like myself. I put my hair back in a bun or with a French pharmacy barrette and ‘make good’ make-up – which isn’t too far from day make-up, just with some added sheen. It sure won’t be ‘work’ make-up! I usually have a silk scarf of some sort (my faves, from Chanel, Hermès and Westwood, are all over 20 years old), tied to my little (if possible) handbag. Scarves always, always come in handy for something!”

Relinquish the aux

“I know I should handle the tracklist but, in all honesty, I defer to a playlist or another human! A good DJ or good music can keep me up and dancing way past when I should, but I like the music to surprise me.”

Pizza is always a good idea

Kylie’s top tip? “Some food before the food! Speaking as something of a hypoglycaemic, being too hungry before a social meal can take the shine away. Pizza – when it’s a good pizza – is possibly one of the best things ever at the end of the night. After shows on tour we generally have ‘motivational pizza’, or the roadies call it ‘load out’ pizza. Either way, it’s perfect!” As for her preferred festive party fare? “Although I’ve spent many Christmases in the Northern Hemisphere, I’m going to go back to my roots and say an Aussie barbecue.”

Don’t forget to cater to friends who don’t drink

“Louie in London has made three cocktails using my Kylie Minogue Wines 0% Sparkling wine. They are all amazing, but if we were at the bar right now, I would go for a ‘Tension’: the Zero Sparkling Blanc mixed with spiced fresh pineapple and ginger, and served in a coupe. It’s like a spiced Sour and it is delicious. All the glamour of a cocktail, with zero alcohol.”

Close out the night with a Christmas classic

“I can’t pick just one! I have my own Christmas album so I’ll definitely give that a spin. But let’s add in these classics: Mariah’s ‘All I Want For Christmas’, Wham’s ‘Last Christmas’, the inimitable ‘Fairytale of New York’ by the Pogues and Kirsty MacColl, ‘White Christmas’ by Bing Crosby, and ‘Feliz Navidad’ by José Feliciano. Oh, and the gigantic newcomer, Cher’s ‘DJ Play A Christmas Song’!”
