It Healed My Redness Overnight

I’m one of those people who switches up their skincare regimen depending on the season. In the summer, I prefer gel-like moisturizers and facial mists, but when winter hits, I pull out the thicker creams to help combat dryness and redness (the latter of which I struggle with a lot). While I certainly have my favorite formulas, I was eager to give The Outset a try since the brand is specifically geared towards those with sensitive skin (its founders Scarlett Johansson and Kate Foster both deal with sensitivities)—and it didn’t disappoint.

I’ve yet to test out the entire line, but The Outset’s night cream was a positive introduction. I mean, its product description literally says “replenish skin overnight without the redness,” which immediately reeled me in. It’s full of nourishing ingredients such as a hyaluronic acid alternative, niacinamide, evening primrose oil and bakuchiol, retinol’s less irritating twin. Basically, it will certainly counteract inflammation, but also supply your skin with long-term, anti-aging benefits at the same time.

The formula is definitely on the thicker side (it is a night cream, after all) so you really need to give it some time to sink in after applying. I appreciated that a little bit goes a long way, so you won’t run through the entire jar quickly, even if you use it daily. And while how soothing it immediately feels on the skin is a major plus, it was the results I saw the following morning that truly won me over.

Any redness that typically lives on my skin’s surface was gone, dry patches were much softer and less flaky, and the overall tone of my complexion looked much healthier. My skin only continued to look better in the following days; if it was able to transform my skin concerns within 48 hours, imagine the results after a month of use.

New York City’s temperatures have only continued to dip, and while by now my complexion would be up in flames (cracking around my nose, excessive redness across my cheeks, the list goes on) I’ve been able to keep those issues at bay with the help of The Outset’s night cream. If you’re on the lookout for a new winter moisturizer, heed my recommendation.
